You comments on Good News don't wash to me. It makes sense to let folks know what is going on. I am in the Western NC Annual Conference and was opposed to our center being used for something so unholy. The church is in a sad state when they resort to this and try and justify it. And then, act all high and mighty if we complain and question it! Brother! Yes, something is very wrong here!!

Dean,
I have just now stumbled upon your blog site. You are too reasonable and balanced to be as persuasive as I would like.
Seriously, your careful analysis of the inconsistencies of radicals like Good News and IRD is right on the money. Which statement of the Social Principles is Gospel and which isn't? Which Act of General Conference? Which verse in Leviticus?
Those of us who recognize that people of faith can have different beliefs can live with inconsistencies. Those who "know" they have the final truth are doomed to ignore them.
The tragedy--as you point out, is that they then waste everybody's energy as they try to suppress intelligent discussion.
I look forward to reading your future postings. Your calm presenting and analysing of differing views will stretch--and calm me.

There is quite a bit of difference in the Discipline's and Social Principles stances on homosexuality (and practice) and stances on abortion.

For example, we have explicit law forbidding funding of homosexual advocacy, and explicity language declaring homosexuality to be incompatible with Christian teaching. We have no such admonitions regarding abortion.

Ergo, there is quite a bit of difference in a church (body) hosting a homosexual rally [yes, a rally] and a church hosting an anti-abortion rally.

Hi,
I wonder if there are Methodist Right to Life groups in Cincinnati.
I have never heard of any.

Thanks,
Maxi
